Our professional educators are here to help your child build confidence and knowledge. Each session:
Your child works with the same tutor who provides individualized instruction based on their needs.
Your child's homework is completed and checked for accuracy.
We review and reteach daily classwork and/or learning objectives.
You are informed of progress, homework, upcoming assessments from your child's tutor.
Upcoming projects and exams have been discussed, and assigned a timeline for studying or completion.

Christina Lazar
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Christina Lazar is an honor graduate from the University of North Carolina College of Education. Originally from NY, she has worked as a mentor, teacher, coach, and advocate for children for over 20 years. With the support of her former school, parents of students, and colleagues, Christina opened The Lazar Center of Charlotte in 2007. Since then, she has supported hundreds of students as they grow equally in confidence and academic achievement. Her favorite thing about her work is finding that unique key that allows her team to unlock each student’s potential.
Stephanie Carver
Tutor
Stephanie graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 2010 with a bachelor’s in Social Science with concentrations in history, political science, and geography. She also completed her teaching program, receiving her teaching credential in 2011. Over the last ten years, Stephanie has worked various jobs in the field of education, teaching World History & AP World History, working as an instructional aide in an ASD classroom, substitute teaching, and tutoring privately. She recently moved to Tega Cay and could not be happier about setting down roots here.
Alicia Malpiedi
TUTOR
Alicia graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education and certification in Middle School Math. She moved to Charlotte in 2011 and secured a position as a math teacher at Southwest Middle School. During her time at SWMS, she pioneered the Builder’s Club, a community service organization for middle school students. Alicia’s favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity to be part of her student’s lives forever. While she no longer teaches in the traditional classroom, she enjoys working at The Lazar Center.
Kelli Wooten
TUTOR
Kelli Wooten graduated from Appalachian State with a Bachelor’s degree in elementary education and a Master’s degree in reading education, with a concentration in autism studies and a minor in psychology! Throughout her college experience, she worked in various daycares, acting as a head teacher in early education programs. She also completed multiple internships in a variety of elementary-aged classrooms and took the opportunity to substitute teach as well. Kelli’s favorite part of working with students is the relationships she gets to build with them! Kelli loves getting to know each student she works on an individual basis with so that she can craft a curriculum that reflects their interests and feels meaningful to them!

Debbie Soltisz
TUTOR
Debbie received her degree from The Ohio State University in Management Information Systems. After working as a systems engineer and raising her four children, Debbie switched career paths to focus on education. She served on her local school board for six years and then became an elementary school tutor and found her calling! She has over eight years of tutoring experience with a focus on K-5 reading literacy. Debbie enjoys working with students to find their strengths and unlock their learning potential! She joined the Lazar Center to help equip students with skills that will help them to succeed!

Samantha Rich
Tutor
Samantha graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Political Science and a Minor in Education. After graduating from college, Samantha completed a teacher licensure program so that she could become licensed to teach. She has five years of teaching experience ranging from K-4 and has a passion for building strong readers at a young age. Her favorite part of tutoring is seeing her students accomplish tasks they didn’t think they could do! On the weekends, she hangs out with her family or watches Clemson Football, and her favorite place to visit is the beach.

Mackenzie Sheehan
TUTOR
Mackenzie is a tenth-grade English teacher at Catawba Ridge High School in Fort Mill, South Carolina. She is in her fifth year of teaching and is thankful every day for her job. She graduated from Kent State University in 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She then earned a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction and is working towards her National Board Certification. Mackenzie is passionate about helping students prepare for college and the real world. Her favorite part of teaching is helping students reach their academic and personal goals.

Emily Reece
Tutor
Emily is a 2022 graduate of the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics. She is currently a high school math teacher at Invest Collegiate Transform Charter School and has been with the Lazar Center as a tutor for over five years. Emily loves seeing students have that “Aha” moment! She enjoys watching them grow more and more confident in their skills and learnings. Emily has a knack for the Spanish and English languages and grammar as well. She’s well-liked by all her students for her outgoing personality and great sense of humor.

Caroline Knight
TUTOR
Caroline is a current student at Winthrop University and will graduate with her BA in Mathematics this May. She will also attend an accelerated graduate degree program to obtain her Masters in Arts of Teaching. She is passionate about mathematics and helping students understand the why and how behind mathematical concepts. She plans to teach in a South Carolina high school upon graduation. Caroline graduated Valedictorian of Lancaster High School in 2020 with the top GPA in the Lancaster County School District. She hopes to share her passion for learning with the next generation of students throughout her tutoring and teaching career.
