Our Tega Cay Team

Christina Lazar

FOUNDER & DIRECTOR

Christina Lazar is an honor graduate from the University of North Carolina College of Education. Originally from NY, she has worked as a mentor, teacher, coach, and advocate for children for over 20 years. With the support of her former school, parents of students, and colleagues, Christina opened The Lazar Center of Charlotte in 2007. Since then, she has supported hundreds of students as they grow equally in confidence and academic achievement. Her favorite thing about her work is finding that unique key that allows her team to unlock each student’s potential.

Stephanie Carver

Tutor

Stephanie graduated from CSU Stanislaus in 2010 with a bachelor’s in Social Science with concentrations in history, political science, and geography. She also completed her teaching program, receiving her teaching credential in 2011. Over the last ten years, Stephanie has worked various jobs in the field of education, teaching World History & AP World History, working as an instructional aide in an ASD classroom, substitute teaching, and tutoring privately. She recently moved to Tega Cay and could not be happier about setting down roots here.

Alicia Malpiedi

TUTOR

Alicia graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor of Science in Education and certification in Middle School Math. She moved to Charlotte in 2011 and secured a position as a math teacher at Southwest Middle School. During her time at SWMS, she pioneered the Builder’s Club, a community service organization for middle school students. Alicia’s favorite thing about teaching is the opportunity to be part of her student’s lives forever. While she no longer teaches in the traditional classroom, she enjoys working at The Lazar Center.

Andrew Thompson

He also has a Masters in Russian and literature. He has been professionally tutoring English, math and history for over six years. He also has extensive experience teaching test prep for the SAT/ACT. Bethany graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, earning her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. She moved back to Charlotte and began her teaching career at Tuckaseegee Elementary, where she taught 3rd-grade and 4th-grade math for the past two years. One of her favorite parts about teaching is when she gets to work one-on-one with her students. Bethany finds this to be the best time to develop relationships, provide support and effectively close the gaps. Bethany prides herself on being positive and dedicated to her students!
